Awesome

You know that feeling after throwing up 10 times in a row when you just want to die a quick death because your body had just been put through a violent and unnatural torture? Well... take that feeling, add one teaspoon of it being the middle of the night (all night long), one cup of a sick baby that can't breath and will only sleep ON YOU (between barfs) and one cup of a husband that is high fiving you as he passes you in the hall with the same flu.

That's right. Friday night BOTH Marcus and I went down with the 24hr flu and for the love of god it was awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssssssome.

Now I sit here on Sunday clearly not recovered from my even worse sleep deprevation debating to take Alex to Sick Kids because he has had a terrible cough for two days and is just not himself.  I debate Sick Kids because I don't trust Dr. anymore after what had happened with Hayden.

So there you have it.

As I said....

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSOME!

Bed time experiment...night 1 update

It went so so. I chickened out from letting Alex cry because of his little cough.  I just didn't have the heart
to do that to him tonight...figures! HOW - EVER... I didn't lift him from his crib when he yelled and I used the combo bottle for 10 seconds bum pat to get him back to sleep. He yelled but it worked.  Also, he gave me a stretch of almost four hours as well so I'm thinking it's going to work.

I hate the kids on Barney. Sorry tourrettes moment but god they drive me crazy.  WAY over annimated.
(I know I need to GET OUT).

I wonder if Hayden and Alex will find any of my daily entries interesting or annoying when they are old enough to read this.  Who knows... at least they will know the tourture they put me through and may feel the need to buy me something pretty. :)

Bedtime experiment night #1

It's 8:13 day one of bedtime experiment.  Bedtime for the kids just took an hour longer because they kept each other up with their "i dont want to go to bed protests".  Alex didn't get his bottle to fall asleep tonight so he's ticked (and has a cold, but got the all clear of anything funky from the Dr. today), and Hayden is just Hayden.

I may chicken out tonight on the whole letting them scream thing I so bravely said I was going to do, oh just yesterday! We'll see. I'm feeling like a big wimp right now. A big EXHAUSTED wimp that only has time for babies and blogging about babies.

This wimp wants energy from a half decentish night sleep so this wimp can work out again. (ok, change my clothes every once in a while and brush my hair again).

Anyway, we'll see. Now, 8:17 I'm feeling somewhat bold again.

We
Shall
See.

Day 1

Ok, so... reading reading reading and reading.
WHY IS MY BABY NOT SLEEPING LONGER THAN TWO HR STRETCHES AT A TIME?

1) Make sure they are full during the day: (He just barfed all over me) - He's full
2) Make sure he is comfortable. - Dude is comfortable
3) Change what YOU are doing. - At first this piece of advice seemed sarcastic but then it dawned on me.

*The moment I hear stirring I jump and go running in fear he will wake the house up (aka - Hayden).  But what is funny is that no matter how how I try to keep the two kids from waking each other, they still do so what the heck am I waiting for at this point!
I know that Alex is fully capable of soothing himself back to sleep because I have been watching him do it for the last 24hrs during nap time.  So the conclusion I come to is this...let one scream, let one wake the other and just get the two of them use to hearing each other.

In theory this is simple. But at 3:00am it just seems easier to shove a bottle into Alex's mouth to keep him quiet, even if it means in two hours he's going to do it to me all over again.

Fri, Sat, Sun Mon Hayden is home with me full time. So tomorrow night operation "make some noise to get some sleep will begin. I will at least know that if Hayden is kept up all night he will have good naps at home in his own bed should he face a night of torture.

(oh for the love of god. I as I type this Alex is flipping out in his crib after I put him down for a nap).

I may just scratch everything I just typed. We'll see.

Wish me luck.

Milestone!

VERY exciting to me but I realize not very exciting to the rest of the world...
Alex can now put himself to sleep at nap time, VERY exciting!

He is also rolling from front to back back to front which is not nearly as exciting as my
first tid bit of news but I documented this milestone for Hayden so I feel the need to do the
same for Alex.

Wow, the "what you do for one you have to do for another" just officially began.

"Crusty"

I just had a vision of putting my fist through my wall after stepping on a squeeky floor board and waking both kids up at the same time after taking an hour putting them both to bed (after waking up for the day at 4:30am because Hayden decided it was time after just finishing a 4:00am feeding with Alex who was up every two hrs all a while praying that I could sleep in until 6:00.

Then I wonder why anyone should question why I'm a little "crusty".

If anything "crusty" behaviour should be expected, welcomed, enjoyed and celebrated.

"crusty"

whatever.

Dinner 1 through 10

Marcus and I went for dinner on Sat night. Our night went as follows:

*Drive along Queen street looking for a restaurant we had yet to try. Nothing caught our eye so we ventured into Leslieville.

- A cute looking place caught our eye so we went in, sat down and within 3 seconds we both realized neither one of us were feeling it.  (a seat right by the door, cold and in the middle of the restaurant). So coats back on and we left.

- The Keg mansion sounded like a good idea, but after a drive by we changed our mind.

- The Keg in St. Lawerence Market! - But the wait time was 1.5hrs.

- Fionn Macools in the Market... But just as fast as we walked in, we walked out.  Dull vibe

- The Trevor Wine Bar was our next stop.  They searched for a table, sat us down but once again we took one look at each other and knew it wasn't going to happen because dance music at dinner time wasn't exactly what we were looking for... the search went on.

**At this point we were not going to settle. Forget it! We got this far and  nights out alone were few and far between... so our quest continued.

- Pravda Vodka Bar.  One table by the door and we had to be out by 9:00 (it was 8:15 at that point)

- Some random no name restaurant but the name escapes me... A huge screen with the hockey game on which would mean me talking to myself.

** Giggling like kids running up and down streets, darting across the road....we were just happy to be out and now fuled for our mission.

- Pj O'Briens... One table with a party about to start right beside us.  Coats on annnnd out the door we went.

- Irish Embasy.... annnnnnd no.

And the winner is..... Ki at Bay and Wellington.  Great sushi, quiet table and a quick dinner because at that point we were both exhausted and ready for bed.

It's occasions like this that remind me why Marcus and I are married.  Who else would put up with (let alone be amused by) such nerotic behaviour.

I DO NOT SLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP

Why is it that my child STILL gets up every 2-3 hrs ALL NIGHT LONG to eat. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
I just made the mistake of reading a blog entry from when Hayden was the same age. I basically was bragging about how he would go to bed at this time, wake at this time and only have one night feeding. My own post just annoyed me.

I quit!

Yesterday morning I quit life. I quit being a mom, I quit being a wife, I quit taking care of a home..I QUIT!
Well... the actual quitting part of "i quit" didn't exactly happen but god it felt good to say.

Annoying is....

When you get up at 4:45 with baby #1  and get him back to sleep by 5:05 just to step on a floor board and wake baby #2 who in turn wakes baby #1.

Fix You

No matter how much you read, plan and prepare there are certain things you just have to experience to learn and understand.  I've learned this last week to never under estimate the power of  my inner mama bear.

I had no problem this week harrassing Dr's, questioning their every move and trusting my own instincts when it came to Hayden.  It's MY job to protect and fix him so fix him I will!

Today as I was cleaning up the kitchen to the tunes on my ipod, I felt this little tug at my shirt while loading the dish washer. I looked down and saw these big blue eyes staring up at me with a big smile on his face.
I knelt down to him and sat and hugged him for what felt like an eternity.  He knows I'm the go to and understand that I (at least for now) have the power to fix him.

"Fix You" by cold play was playing during our little moment together.  Good god, my heart strings are getting their butt kicked! Try listening to that song while thinking about your kids, just try it.

No text book in the world....

WOW

Not sure how to begin this post. Ticked off, sad, scared, did i mention TICKED OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm going to point form this for you because if I get going I won't stop.

1) Boxing day: Take Hayden to emergency because he is breathing funny, has a high fever and coughing.  TOLD THEM he hs breathing funny but I was assured his lungs, throat and ears were clear and it was just a cold.

2) Dec 28 I go back to emergency because he still has a fever, bad cough, no appitite etc.  I tell them again he is still not breathing well but I'm told it's because he has tonsillitis and it's the sound of the air passing around this large tonsils. We are sent home with antibiotics.

3) Dec 30 I go to my family Dr. just to check things out. No fever for two days but he still has a cough and is breathing funny. (or so I point out to them). I'm told his tonsils are not better and ears and throat and lungs are clear. No wheezing etc.

4) Jan 1 - he pukes but no fever. (after a coughing a fit)

5) Jan 2- he pukes but no fever (after a coughing fit)

6) Jan 3- he pukes with fever that came and went quickly

7) Jan 4- he pukes after a coughing fit but no fever

8) Jan 5- I decided to give him a steam in the bathroom which results in him coughing (not puking) up a ridiculous amount of mucous.  I studied the contents and was more than convinced that it was in fact from his lungs and NOT his tummy this time.

9) I take him to our family dr who again tells me he is not wheezing but agrees to a chest x-ray that I had to request!

Long story short...the poor kid had:

Tonsillitis
Ear Infection
and wait for it...
Pnemonia

ALL AT THE SAME TIME.

Did I mention that on DEC 26 I TOLD THE DR THAT HE WAS NOT BREATHING LIKE HE NORMALLY DOES????????

"Dr's" - yeah right.

Time long past

In a few hours the present will be past and a new year to being. Another new beggining, new plan, new ideas, new hopes, new wishes, new challenges await us all. An exciting thought when you really think about it.  A chance for us to get back on track to living the life we really want by quitting bad habits and starting new adventures.

It was REALLY hard for me to choose what to do tonight with all of my freedom, options and babysitting offers ( ha ha) but we decided to forgo the glow sticks and rave this year and stay home and fall asleep on the couch in our pjs. MUCH more exciting. If I'm not drooling on the couch by midnight it will be a flipping miracle.

Anyway, good bye 2009.... it has been quite the year.

The last week has been interesting. Lots of visits with friends, family and a VERY special visit from tonsillitis.

Christmas eve was hosted by us this year. Frank, Claire and Adrian came for dinner and Marcus cooked (surprise surprise).

Christmas moring we were up at the crack o' dawn with the babies (5:30am) to open gifts. The morning was off to a good start until all of a sudden Hayden started to go down hill fast.

That afternoon we were off to my parents house to have Christmas with my whole family this year (Alex and Cesar in town with the kids). Hayden would just not settle down and just as fast as we arrived, we left with un-opened gifts and all.

Boxing day Hayden and I decided it would be lovely to hang out in emergency to check out his shortness of breath, high fever and bad cough.  Five hours of good times was had by all.  We were sent home with the diganosis of  "just a bad cold".

Two days later the fever was still going strong so back to Emerency we went for some more good times. This time the "Dr" said he had tonsillitis.

Here we are on Dec 31 with somewhat of an improvement but still not a happy kid.  Fingers crossed to a good start to his new beggining this year.

Happy New Year to all. Here's to making this year, one you'll re-live in memory many years to come.

Some Christmas pics.....

Fa la la la thank god

Alex slept from 12:30 until 5:30ish this morning. It would have been longer if Hayden didn't let the house know that he was awake.  I wish I could program the little suckers to sleep and wake and speak and eat and poop when I said so.

Last week I mingled with some moms that I didn't know just to get out of the house and meet some new friends.  The first person I spoke with talked about how she gave birth naturally at home and how beautiful it was. How her hubby caught the baby and how they all just fell asleep after.

Did her and I give birth the same way? Because last time I checked it was painful, messy and I needed a Dr. and drugs.

her and I can't be friends.

Yesterday  poor little sick Hayden and I baked Christmas cookies. When I say baked I mean bought a kit with pre-made cookies. All we had to do was decorate (which was supplied in the kit as well).

some pics.

Go figure

I bounce and rock ALL day long with Alex (and night) and lift and swing and play with Hayden when I'm not bouncing yet  I still seem to have flabby arms.  Why? Whhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?

AND with this constant movement you would think my ass would be smaller. (no, drive by cookie gobbling should not factor in because i don't have time to make anything else to eat).

shut up.

So it only took 3 days...

Tree decorating is done!  I sat admiring the tree in the dark this evening and couldn't help laughing to myself. Take a look at the picture below, my tree screams children live in this home.  No ornaments in Haydens reach and hidden in the midst of the traditional gold and red balls...a cookie monster. Pretty fitting to life now.  There are many "cookie monsters" hidden in the midst of what used to be life before baby.  Sippy cups lined up beside our wine glasses, another cute reminder.

Today a girlfriend came by with her five month old.  An old friend with lots to catch up on... She was from life before baby and someone like myself who enjoys to dance.  Well today we danced, but this time with our little cookie monsters in our arms working through teething pains and missed naps together.  I think thats half the key to this mom gig. Join forces and dance your troubles away!

Tree decorating...

We set out to do things these days and just assume we won't finish them, get there what have you.  What once was easy is now a production so knowing this makes our lack of getting things done and seeing them through, tolerable.

This weekend we started to decorate the tree but between stopping Hayden from eating the lights, to meals and rocking Alex to sleep things took longer than we thought.  I'll finish the tree today, or at least I plan too!
