It's 6:03am...VERY EXCITING!

Marcus and I are VERY excited this morning. Hayden went to bed at 6:00pm last night and woke up at 5:00am this morning! BUT.... he amused himself until 5:45 in his crib on his own.  I was so excited all night that I however, did not sleep.

Firsts...

This week Hayden experienced a few "Firsts"

He started eating solids for a first time, used his exisaucer and he saw his first snow fall.

This got me thinking about all of the firsts hes going to experience and how lucky we are that "firsts" never really stop for us no matter how old we get. Hayden was our first child, a first cousin, grandson and nephew. Marcus and I are going to Quebec City for our anniversary in Dec for the first time and every new year is the first we have seen of it. I remember the first time I walked, the first time I saw Katharine and the first time I thought I heard Santa on our roof. Life can be exciting no matter what age we are if we re-appreciate our firsts like we did when we were children. Deep thoughts by Joanna at 8:00am!

Random Thoughts...

Is it wrong that I am now against the mom group? After all I said about understanding why mom's needing to get out, I no longer want to get out.  Reason being, Hayden generally naps during the group and I don't have the heart to wake him.  I've received multiple suggestions to just wake him anyway but it's just not me.  Happy baby means happy mommy. Unhappy baby, means unhappy mommy.  Pretty simple logic to get, not sure why I'm getting so much slack?
I think I may be more of a loner than I thought.  I enjoy socializing, don't get me wrong but not to the point where it's going to make my son miserable.  So once again, my mind has changed about something else..... and we continue to learn.

I forget what it's like to sleep through the night.  I literally have no idea what it's like to lie down, sleep and wake up for the day... strange concept. Things are progressing at a rapidly fast pace though!  Nap time is like night and day.  He pretty much can put himself to sleep now, which is great!  We are still doing one night feeding with a few random night stirs here and there.  He wakes for the day at 5:30 still which is just not sitting well.  Come on kid... give me 6:00...6:00!

All of my boys are sleeping right now here on  a rainy Saturday afternoon. Maybe I should join them!

Happy Halloween!

Halloween was unseasonably warm this year! With plans to sit on our porch anyway (so the trick or treeters didn't wake Hayden from sleepy land with every knock), we were pleasantly surprised to enjoy a nice evening! The entire street was outside sitting out like us or walking up and down with their kids. A little red wine and chocolate never hurt to make the evening even that much more fun! Ha Ha.

I dressed up like a Venice Carnival attendee (wearing part of my wedding dress and all) and Marcus had on the Jason mask. Hayden was a bear for about .3 seconds before he grew hot and demanded we take it off...just enough time to grab a picture.

The next day we packed up and enjoyed the rest of the weekend at the cottage with some friends. Here are some pics!

Breaking News

We have a rolling baby. Back to front, front to back....hes practically running.

Things I don't want to forget at 4 months so just go with it:
Favorite Song: Frera Jackra
Eyes: Still blue
Hair: light brown
Bedtime: 6:30
Night feeding: 2:00am
Wake up: 6:00am
Naps every two hrs (average 4 naps a day)

Hayden is such a happy baby and he's getting really funny.  Marcus can really get him laughing but hes more sucky with me (maybe I'm just not funny).

The other day I could tell his little teeth were bothering him so I laid him down on the ground and started to dance for him.  Well..I don't know what happened but something came over me and it turned into a full on freaky combo Kevin Bacon/Flash Dance dance routine. I was running up and down the halls singing dancing while poor Hayden lied there watching me stunned! I did get his mind off of his teeth though....I think I dislocated my hip.

Friday night I headed to the cottage with my mom and 12 women for a girls weekend at the cottage. Would you believe I actually cried before I left!!! Hilarious! I was sad to leave my little guy. I was  gone less than 24hrs!  I knew Marcus had it all under control yet still had a really hard time going.  With that said, I'm glad I did go though.  My two guys needed some alone time without me watching.

schedule shmedule

So we have been on a fantastic schedule (and understanding) for two months now!
Two 30 min naps in the morning and two 30 min naps in the afternoon...bed by 6:30ish.

The last few days he napping longer and yesterday he gave up this 2nd afternoon nap, which made bed time a HUGE pain. (still in bed by 7:15) but it through me right off. So does this mean he doesn't need to sleep every 2hrs like he did in the past? (even though he seemed dead tired yesterday as he fought his nap). I don't get it, He's been sleeping 2hrs AND now hes sleeping through his 12:00pm feeding.

Just when I think I have him all figured out....

To Spaz or Not to Spaz

To spaz or not to spaz...that is the question.

Today mosheshe and I started our first mom group, (yes the one I lined up for).
Anyway, would you believe I actually had anxiety about it last night? I had a dream
that I walked in on someone basting Hayden like a turkey ready to put him in the oven to cook!
The Freud in me believes this was my subconscious way of dealing with my anxiety, or feeding it I should say.

So anyway, we get up, we go, all the while I'm just not sold on the idea of someone else looking after my little guy (day care at mom group). Not that I don't trust others I just don't feel that hes ready for others putting him to sleep, calming him down etc. Sleep was actually my biggest concern. If he misses a nap life for me there after is a gong show.

Anywho, as I was saying... The morning actually went well. (Yes I did check on him about 12 times) but I knew that my little man would need me. ....well he didn't not until it was time to leave.

I was a little annoyed with myself for being such a spaz seeing my nature is not like that at all! I am never afraid of trying new things and never in my life had I ever experienced anxiety!

With that all said a few women in the class told me I was their hero for biting the bullet and getting out of the house with Hayden at such a young age. They both told me they were too afraid of it themselves when their babies were his age.

Knowing that I'm not crazy, that it's ok to feel like a spaz and anxiety does happen to other mothers made me feel so much better.

I understand now why all those moms stood around in the cold that morning to register. To seek reassurance that they're doing a great job, and realize we are all crazy together.

Rookie

I just read a post I made on July 17...what a rookie I was! Ha Ha I talked about his great routine (going to bed at 10:00) and then up every 2hrs after that...

Well ladies and gentlemen...he now goes to bed at 6:30 and wakes up once for a feeding (with the occastional gassy wake up)

...it DOES get easier!

I used to line up for rock concerts

I heard through the grape vine recently that the mom group to be at is a Friday morning exercise class (with daycare)/mom group and coffee after. With the inside scoop on this group available to me I was told to get there early for registration because the class fills up fast. So last Tuesday there I was standing outside in the cold with coffee in hand at 7:00am with a herd of other moms of all shapes and sizes with babies of all shapes and sizes. Now...the kicker to this was registration wasn't until 9:30 so for 2.5hrs we stood around probably all silently thinking to ourselves...."I used to line up for rock concerts". We exchanged a micky for a baby and getting down with getting fit.

I'll proud to say i was number 4 and got into the group.

He's getting so big

They grow up so fast (sniff sniff). Cliche but its true!
I have only 1-2 nightly wakings and now Hayden can put himself to sleep for his naps during the day. I took a pic the other day because I was so proud.
WOW! I must get out more.

I spy with my little eye

You have got to love modern technology!
Last week I walked in on Hayden numerous times sleeping with his blanket over his face, with puke down his cheek, at the bottom of the crib or in some sort of compromising position. Now that he's sleeping longer I am becoming a little more liberal with jumping at the first sign of him stirring in the night...which was not such a great idea considering what I mentioned above.

So.....I decided to invest in a video monitor and let me tell you what a GREAT idea that was! Now I can sit and watch the little bugger move here and there and know exactly whats going on (and if mommy needs to go to his rescue) LOVE IT! I think I may use this little gadget when he's 18 and Marcus and I are away for the weekend. (Ps did i just call Hayden a bugger?)

Now with all that said about modern technology, he has no interest in any of his musical or mechanical toys. Instead his new best friend is a little yellow lion faced dangle something or other with the below chew toy coming in as a close second.... I'm learning that you don't always have to pay an arm and a leg for things BUT there is also something to be said about quality. I guess we just need to be smart about where our dollars go. (Little yellow lion that makes him loose his mind? $2.99).

Irony at it's best

This week has been the week of ironic events.  Irony makes me laugh, no matter what the situation.  For example.....

The other night (god love Hayden) I really needed to just get away, take a breath, take a break and de-stress from a somewhat stressful day.  So when Marcus suggested we order take out I was more than happy to be the one to go and pick the food up!  Now....seeing my day was a crazy one I didn't have time to change out of my pjs from the moment I woke up. Soooo being over tired I really didn't mind going out in my pjs to pick up our sushi. Yes I went out in my pjs, but really what is the worst that could happen. I would run in and out and nobody would even notice! Well I ran in and out and no, nobody noticed.  All went well until i tried to start the car and it was dead! So there I am on Queen street during rush hr holding my sushi in front of my dead car in my pjs. Nice plan...nothing stressful about that!  One tow truck boost later and I was home...laughing at the irony.

This last weekend I decided to experiment and only give Hayden formula for 48 hrs.  Reason being...he is up every hr during the night with gas. On top of the whole thing he eats every hr so basically there is no sleep for either of us these days.  Anyway, as I was saying I fed him formula only and learned within hrs that it's mommy's breast milk which is giving him such bad gas! So now at three months breast feeding has come to an end.  How ironic that what is apparently the best thing for my baby is what is hurting him the most.  With that said we are now both happier waking half the amount as we were three days ago.   Now...if I could just get this kid full.....

Milestone!

Oh my god. He knows his bed time! Our hands are free after 8:00pm every night! (granted I'm in bed about an hour later but whose counting that!) Just sitting here having a glass of wine feeling somewhat normal.  Knocking on wood all over the place!
P.S Our baby is gigantic! Yes....gigantic.

At first glance

Happy Birthday Matias!

This past week Alex Cesar and the bubbas were in town for a visit. We had a little birthday party for Matias and mom and dads and Hayden met Matias and Isabella for the first time. Well lets face it he had no clue what was going on, but it was cute to the rest of us! Hayden screamed the entire time because of my new enemy...gas. I spent most of the time in a bed room with him trying to calm him down... I'm sure next year will be different.
Isabella is such a pretty little girl and so obviously a girl! Hayden looks like a little truck beside her... I'm so happy they are close in age!

The following day we went out to Frank and Claire's for a first time visit with Giana and the gang. Hayden was in a better place this time and was a hit with the ladies!

I learned last week the H is lactose intolerant so we had to switch up his formula. Things do seem better but he's still a little off... I wonder if hes allergic to my breast milk? Anyway...thinking out loud here.
